Instructor: James Maher

Explore Chinatown with local street photographer, author and dumpling expert James Maher. See the old ornate carved stone tenement buildings, learn about the dangerous history of the old Five Points neighborhood famously featured in "The Gangs of New York", including a street called "The Bloody Angle," the most murderous spot in the history of New York. Photograph the colorful streets and bright signs of Chinatown and learn how to capture the people and their culture. We will explore alleyways and gorgeous old streets and visit Columbus Park where neighborhood residents play Chinese Chess and gamble. And if you're lucky, James might even show you his favorite spot for soup dumplings!

" The workshop was well-planned in every way. The instructor was excellent- knowledgeable, encouraged questions and provided hands on support when necessary. Encouraged us to try different techniques while sharing his expertise and experience. Tips on street photography were useful and I (successfully) used several recommendations over the course of the workshop. James has a passion for his work and for the history of the area- his enthusiasm was catching and I can't wait to take another workshop. James did a great job-thank you!" CM
"James did a great job in the introductory comments and suggestions for camera settings. He was knowledgeable of the area and thoughtfully responded to questions. His easy going style made it easy to be with him for the 3 hours." Edward
